Thanks for getting back to me and so quickly at a time when the world is falling apart. It really is a fabulous assessment which I plan to show the Council Early Years Advisors, and all the early years settings I go into when schools open and we get back to work. From going around Early Years settings, there certainly is a big opening for an assessment like yours as EYFS is so huge and there is no way for them to ‘assess’ children. I regularly use the Teddy Talk Test to assess what level individual children are at in their understanding and language development, enabling me to plan activities to help to develop these areas, or to seek additional support from outside agencies when needed.

The Teddy Talk Test makes assessing the speech and language of pre-school children a breeze. Everything you need is in one pre-prepared 'go bag' that I grab from the boot of my car time and time again. The simplicity makes it easy to do in both English and BSL/SSE. Love it.

The Teddy talk test is one of the most useful tools in my Speech Therapy collection. I make sure it’s with me whenever I’m working with Pre-schoolers, as it’s so useful for a quick assessment. Children consistently relate to and instantly engage with the pictures and the toys. The Teddy Talk Test has been brilliant when working with young children to provide a quick screen of their language skills. The toys are well made and engaging for children, making the assessment fun and easy to administer. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a language assessment to be used in the early years.

The Teddy Talk Test is a fantastic screening tool for children’s receptive and expressive language. It is easy to administer and with comprehensive instructions anyone can use it. As a play-based assessment, it really engages the child. The pictures are clear and modern and the ‘talk about’ pictures incorporate items from the test. It is highly portable and with simple items and pictures, there is a lot that can be achieved using the TTT, making it really versatile. I would highly recommend this for anyone working with Early Years children.

I use The Teddy Talk Test with children in Foundation Year who present with language in the early stages who may have little or no expressive language and where there are concerns about the level of understanding. I find that children enjoy the anticipation of the toys coming out of the bag and this can sometimes lead to spontaneous naming of the toys without any adult prompts to do so. The photos of simple scenes, which include some of the toys from the bag, are clear and humorous. The children who are able enjoy giving simple verbal descriptions enabling a screen of grammar, information and speech sounds. Teaching staff who observe me using the Teddy Talk Test are able to clearly understand the concept of information carrying word levels and this aids the subsequent discussion about where the adults in the class need to pitch their own language to support their child.

Teddy Talk Test is perfect to use as a quick screening tool with Early Years children. Receptive language, expressive language and speech sounds can all be reviewed within 10 minutes which is great for those children who struggle with attention and concentration. The resources accompanying the Teddy Talk Test are lovely and engaging for small children, this allows therapists to also observe symbolic play skills. Overall a great tool to have when working with early years.
